Some Victories Don’t Look Like Victories

@janeiroblackmon • May 30, 2026

Yesterday, we took a family walk on a trail we had never visited before.

Today, Rio and I went on our usual walk.

Nothing extraordinary.

No trophies.
No major milestone.
No big announcement.

Just a couple of walks.
Or so it seemed.

And yet, as I was walking, I found myself thinking about how easy it is to overlook certain victories.

Because some victories don’t look like victories when they’re happening.

Sometimes the victory is getting out of bed.
Sometimes it’s staying calm when life gives you every reason not to.
Sometimes it’s showing up.
Sometimes it’s making it through a difficult season.
Sometimes it’s keeping faith when you don’t have all the answers.

And sometimes it’s something as simple as taking a walk with your family.

The world tends to celebrate the finish line.

The promotion.
The launch.
The achievement.
The breakthrough.

But life is built in the moments between those moments.

The quiet ones.
The ordinary ones.
The ones that don’t get posted, celebrated, or applauded.

Looking back, some of the biggest victories in my life didn’t feel like victories at all.

They felt like surviving.
They felt like patience.
They felt like perseverance.

They felt like taking the next step when I wasn’t sure what came after it.

I’ve learned not to underestimate those moments.

Sometimes the fact that you’re still here...

Still moving.
Still trying.
Still believing.

That matters more than you think.
