I’ve noticed something about difficult situations.
The hardest part isn’t always what you’re going through.
It’s the uncertainty.
Most of us can handle difficult things.
What wears us down is not knowing.
Not knowing how long it will take.
Not knowing how it will turn out.
Not knowing what comes next.
I’ve experienced that feeling…
As a father.
As a husband.
As a business owner.
As a human being.
And every time, the uncertainty felt heavier than the challenge itself.
Because when you know what you’re dealing with, you can make a plan.
You can adjust.
You can prepare.
But uncertainty leaves you standing in a hallway full of doors with no idea which one opens next.
Your mind starts filling in the blanks.
Usually with worst-case scenarios.
Questions become worries.
Worries become movies that play in our minds on repeat.
And before long, we’re emotionally reacting to futures that may never arrive.
At some point, you have to trade certainty for trust.
Trust that you’ll figure it out.
Trust that you’ll adapt.
Trust that you’ll handle whatever comes next.
When it arrives.
Not before.
I’ve learned that uncertainty always offers an invitation.
To speculate.
To assume.
To imagine the worst.
I’ve simply learned not to accept that invitation.
Not because it’s easy.
But because it rarely leads anywhere worth going.
Eventually I realized...
I don’t have to answer every question uncertainty asks.
Don’t let uncertainty convince you to live in a future that doesn’t exist yet.
Some questions only time can answer.
Eventually, the future will reveal itself.
It always does.
You don’t have to live there yet.
